METER GROUP Soil Moisture Sounds are capacitive sensors of the FDR type (Frequency Domain Reflectrometry) that measure the dielectric constant or soil permitivity to calculate its moisture content. The volumetric fraction of the soil occupied by water it has an enormous influence on the dielectric permittivity of the soil since its dielectric value (80) is much greater than that of the other constituents of the soil (mineral soil 4, organic matter, 4, air, 1).

For this reason, when the amount of soil water varies, the METER GROUP Soil Moisture Sounds detect and measure this variation and relate it directly to the change in the water content - VWC. And contrary to what happens with other sensors, the METER GROUP Soil Moisture Solids are NOT sensitive to the texture and the EC of the soil.

The 5TE Probe measures soil moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity (CE) of soils and substrates, measures that are essential in numerous field studies and, of course, in actual growing conditions. The Humidity and Electrical Conductivity and Soil Temperature Probe 5TE incorporates the same high frequency oscillator as the other METER GROUP Soil Moisture Probes, thus achieving precise measurements of the VWC of any type of soil or substrate, and minimizing the effects derived from texture and salinity.
